Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay, has received a warm message from veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni ahead of the theatrical release of his directorial debut, Sigma.
Jason appeared on the weekend episode of Bigg Boss Telugu Season 10 alongside Sigma lead actor Sundeep Kishan. During the interaction, host Nagarjuna spoke about Vijay’s popularity in the Telugu-speaking states and wished Jason and his first film the same kind of reception.
Nagarjuna pointed to Vijay’s strong following among Telugu audiences before extending his wishes to the young filmmaker.
“Our Telugu audience is very open. Every film of your dad collected huge in Telugu states. And they love Thalapathy Vijay garu here. Hope the same love will be given to you and your film Sigma,” Nagarjuna said.
Jason responded warmly to the veteran actor, saying that the message meant a lot to him.
“Thank you so much, sir. It means a lot coming from you.”
The exchange comes at an important point in Jason’s career as he prepares to introduce himself to audiences as a filmmaker rather than as an actor.
Chiranjeevi compares Jason Sanjay to Vijay’s younger days
Nagarjuna is not the only Telugu film industry veteran to speak about Jason ahead of Sigma.
At an earlier promotional event, Chiranjeevi recalled meeting Jason and said the filmmaker reminded him of Vijay during the early 1990s.
Chiranjeevi recalled telling Jason:
“You look exactly like your father did in 1993-94-95. Why aren’t you acting instead of directing?”
According to Chiranjeevi, Jason made it clear that filmmaking was his preferred path.
Rather than following his father’s career as an actor, Jason has chosen to work behind the camera, making his directorial debut with Sigma.
Chiranjeevi credits Jason’s creative side to his grandparents
Chiranjeevi also discussed Jason’s family background and suggested that his interest in storytelling could be connected to his grandparents, filmmaker S A Chandrasekhar and writer Shoba Chandrasekhar.
Speaking at the promotional event, Chiranjeevi said he felt Jason had absorbed qualities from both his grandfather and grandmother.
“I feel that he imbibed qualities from both his grandfather and grandmother.”
He referred to S A Chandrasekhar’s filmmaking career and Shoba Chandrasekhar’s writing, pointing to their contribution to Tamil cinema.
Chiranjeevi further said:
“So, he has it in his genes, not from his father, but from his grandparents.”
The remarks have added another layer of interest around Jason’s directorial debut, particularly because his family has a long association with Tamil cinema.
What is Sigma about?
Sigma is an action-adventure film headlined by Sundeep Kishan, who plays a character named Guru.
The story follows Guru, described as a rogue treasure hunter and radio host whose life takes a dramatic turn after a betrayal leaves him with nothing.
He subsequently sets his sights on a massive operation involving a reported Rs 500-crore racket controlled by Kotlapadi Veeraiya Reddy.
Because confronting the powerful syndicate directly is not an option, Guru develops an elaborate plan with the help of his friends and associates.
The operation, however, becomes increasingly complicated as betrayals, unexpected developments and shifting loyalties threaten to derail his plans.
Guru must then rely on his instincts and determination to outmanoeuvre his opponents and recover what he believes was taken from him.
Sundeep Kishan leads Jason Sanjay’s debut
Alongside Sundeep Kishan, Sigma features Faria Abdullah, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt and Yog Japee in important roles.
For Jason Sanjay, the film represents a significant career milestone. He enters the industry as a director while carrying considerable attention because of his connection to Vijay and his family’s long-standing association with Tamil cinema.
Nagarjuna’s message on Bigg Boss Telugu and Chiranjeevi’s earlier comments have further placed the young filmmaker in the spotlight ahead of the film’s release.
