Actor Dashvika K makes her debut with Tatvam, a suspense-driven thriller releasing on October 2. The Visakhapatnam native opens up about her journey into acting, her performance-oriented role and why her experience in the film industry has been more positive than she initially expected.
The Telugu film industry is seeing increasing attention around smaller films that manage to connect with audiences, and the makers of Tatvam are hoping their upcoming release will follow a similar path.
Directed by Arjun Kola, the film stars Dinesh Raj in the lead and introduces Dashvika K as a new face to Telugu cinema. The project is produced by Vamsi Seemakurthi and Swetha Pasupulate under the banners of Trayathi Ishani Creations and SK Productions.
The film is scheduled to release in theatres on October 2.
Who is Dashvika K?
Dashvika hails from Visakhapatnam and holds a degree in Biotechnology. Although she eventually chose acting as her career, she says her parents initially encouraged her to complete her education before pursuing her childhood ambition.
“I wanted to become an actor from my childhood, but my parents asked me to complete my education first,” Dashvika said.
Her opportunity arrived when she auditioned for Tatvam and was selected for the role. Before making her feature-film debut, she had also appeared alongside Vijay Deverakonda in an advertisement.
Dashvika has trained under Mahathi Bikshu and underwent additional preparation for her character in Tatvam.
Dashvika says Tatvam is a thriller, not a horror film
The trailer for Tatvam offers glimpses of a character with some darker or grey shades, but Dashvika says audiences should not categorise the movie as a horror film.
“Though the trailer showcases some grey elements in my character, I’m sure the audience will like it. The film is not a horror film, but a thriller with a lot of suspense elements,” she said.
According to Dashvika, the role gave her considerable scope to perform, which she considers an important opportunity for a debut actor.
‘My role is very interesting’
Dashvika describes her character as a soft and kind-hearted woman who supports the protagonist. The story is set against a village backdrop, giving the film a distinct setting.
“My role is very interesting, and there are a lot of emotions to showcase,” she said.
She also found a personal connection with the character’s temperament.
“I am also a shy person, and that helped me connect with my character,” Dashvika added.
For a newcomer, the opportunity to play a character with an emotional arc and multiple shades appears to have been one of the major attractions of Tatvam.
Dashvika opens up about her initial fears about the film industry
Like many newcomers, Dashvika says she had some apprehension before entering the entertainment industry. The perception surrounding the film business initially made her nervous.
“Yes, I was quite tense before entering the industry,” she said.
However, her experience after entering the profession changed that perception.
“I eventually understood that we have to manage things and grow in whichever field we choose. In my case, everything went quite smoothly, and the film industry is not as bad as people outside perceive it to be,” Dashvika added.
Her comments reflect her personal experience as a newcomer rather than a general assessment of the industry.
Chetan Bharadwaj’s music among Tatvam’s highlights
Dashvika also singled out Chetan Bharadwaj’s music as one of the film’s highlights.
She revealed that the makers initially had some concerns about whether audiences would connect with the unusual title Tatvam. However, the response they received during the promotional phase reportedly helped ease those concerns.
“Initially, the makers wondered whether the audience would receive the title well. But we received very positive feedback from everyone,” she said.
Dashvika is hopeful that viewers will understand the significance of the title once they watch the film.
“After October 2, everyone will definitely say that the film is as different as its title,” she added.
Dashvika’s upcoming Tamil and Telugu projects
Tattvam marks Dashvika’s entry into feature films, but she is already looking beyond her debut.
The actor revealed that she has signed a Tamil film that is scheduled to begin production in November. She is also in discussions for several Telugu projects.
For now, her immediate focus remains on the October 2 release of Tatvam and how audiences respond to her first major screen role.
