Radhika Apte has spoken candidly about the fear and distress she experienced after an intimate clip from one of her projects was leaked online without her consent. The actor recalled being so shaken by the incident that she stayed inside her home for four days and became increasingly concerned about her personal safety.
Radhika was discussing the challenges actors face while filming intimate scenes when she reflected on her own experience during an interview with India Today. She explained that the consequences of an unauthorized leak can extend far beyond social media because the material can quickly reach people in an actor’s immediate surroundings.
According to Radhika, the experience made her realise how difficult it can be to separate an online privacy violation from concerns about physical safety.
“We were talking about being able to do intimate scenes, but once something I had done was leaked, I literally couldn’t step out of the house for four days,” she said.
Radhika Apte Says the Leak Made Her Feel Unsafe
Radhika explained that her concerns were not limited to the circulation of the clip itself. She became worried about what could happen if someone who had seen it decided to confront or approach her in person.
“The problem is that it can come home very quickly,” she said, explaining that someone could potentially turn up outside her home after seeing material they found offensive.
The actor also recalled learning that people connected to her household and professional team had encountered the leaked material. She said her stylist told her that her driver had repeatedly watched the clip and questioned whether he would be going to her home.
Radhika added that her building’s watchman had also seen it.
For the actor, those encounters made the situation considerably harder to manage because the incident was no longer something confined to an anonymous online audience.
She Asked Her Team to Stand by Her
Radhika said she was living alone in an apartment at the time, which intensified her concerns about what might happen if the situation escalated.
She recalled speaking directly with her driver and spot assistant about the leaked material. Rather than assuming they would remain around her, she gave them the option to leave if they were uncomfortable with the situation.
Radhika said she needed to know that the people working with her would also be willing to protect her if she faced a safety threat.
Both, she recalled, assured her that they would look after her.
The experience illustrates an important distinction between consenting to perform an intimate scene for a film and consenting to the unauthorized distribution of footage from that performance. A leaked recording can expose performers to consequences they did not agree to and cannot control.

During the same conversation, Radhika also reflected on a separate professional decision involving the political climate at the time.
She said there was a project she genuinely wanted to take on but ultimately decided against it because she feared the potential consequences for her family. According to Radhika, it was the first time she felt fear had influenced an important career decision.
The actor said she felt “ashamed” about stepping away from the project but ultimately chose to prioritise her family’s safety.
She also recalled receiving advice from filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who had advised her not to take up the project.

Radhika has continued working while adjusting to motherhood. She and British musician Benedict Taylor welcomed their first child, a daughter, in December 2024.
