According to the case history cited in reports, Rajpal had borrowed close to Rs 5 crore from Murli Projects Pvt Ltd in 2010 to finance the film. After the movie failed to recover its costs, a repayment dispute followed and resulted in multiple cheque-bounce cases.
Interest and other charges subsequently increased the financial liability associated with the dispute.
Delhi High Court Conviction and Supreme Court Proceedings
In July 2026, the Delhi High Court upheld Rajpal Yadav’s conviction in seven cheque-bounce cases and sentenced him to three months in jail in each case. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
The court also directed the actor to make payments to the complainant.
The matter subsequently reached the Supreme Court, where proceedings are continuing.
In September, the top court reportedly gave Rajpal a two-week period to deposit a Rs 2 crore demand draft and directed him to surrender his passport. The court described the opportunity as a final chance to demonstrate compliance with its orders.
