Ajay Devgn and Kapil Sharma found themselves at the centre of a playful exchange when the actor appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5 alongside the cast of Drishyam: The Conclusion.
Ajay was joined by Shriya Saran, Jaideep Ahlawat, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav as the team appeared on Netflix’s comedy talk show to promote the upcoming film.
Given the strong connection between the Drishyam franchise and Goa, Kapil used the location as the setup for a joke about Ajay’s apparent fondness for the state. Ajay, however, quickly turned the conversation around with a pointed reference to Kapil’s own past association with alcohol.
Kapil Sharma Questions Ajay Devgn’s Love for Goa
Kapil began by pointing out that several of Ajay’s popular films have been filmed in Goa.
He mentioned titles including Golmaal, Singham and Drishyam, before noting that the trailer for Drishyam: The Conclusion was also launched in Goa.
Kapil then jokingly wondered whether Ajay kept returning to the state because he genuinely loved its scenery or had another reason.
“Most of Ajay Devgn’s films, Golmaal, Singham, Drishyam, they all have been shot in Goa,” Kapil said before adding that some people wanted to know whether Ajay found Goa beautiful or simply believed that “you don’t get better feni anywhere else or the pomfret is cheaper there.”
The joke prompted a straightforward response from Ajay.
Ajay Devgn Says He Doesn’t Drink Feni
Rather than playing along with the assumption, Ajay replied:
“Goa is very relaxing, and I don’t drink feni.”
Kapil then extended the joke, suggesting that Ajay could at least get feni for someone else.
That gave Ajay an opportunity to turn the punchline back towards the host.
Ajay’s One-Liner Leaves Kapil in the Spotlight
Responding to Kapil’s suggestion, Ajay said:
“Teri life mein feni ne bahut gadbad ki hai pehli hi, yaad rakhna.”
The line roughly translates to: “Feni has already caused a lot of trouble in your life, remember that.”
Kapil immediately clarified that he does not drink feni.
“Main nahin feni peeta.”
The exchange then continued when Archana Puran Singh added her own punchline:
“Free mein tujhe kuch bhi mil jaaye tu pi lega.”
Her comment further extended the alcohol-themed joke and prompted laughter on the show.
The Reference to Kapil Sharma’s Past
Ajay’s remark was understood in the context of Kapil Sharma’s own previously documented comments about his past drinking habits.
Kapil has spoken publicly about a period in his life when excessive drinking contributed to impulsive behaviour and controversy on social media.
In his 2022 stand-up special I’m Not Done Yet, Kapil recalled an incident involving a tweet directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He explained that he had been drinking before posting the message:
“ARE THESE YOUR GOOD DAYS? @NARENDRAMODI”
Kapil subsequently discussed the reaction to the tweet and the consequences of the episode during his stand-up special.
The reference on The Great Indian Kapil Show therefore drew on something Kapil himself had previously discussed publicly.
Kapil Continues His Goa-Themed Comedy
Rather than letting the exchange end there, Kapil returned to his original Goa material.
He joked that Ajay was in a fortunate position because he effectively gets paid to visit a destination that can become an expensive holiday for ordinary tourists.
Kapil also played with Goa’s familiar associations with beaches and historic forts.
He then added a Drishyam-specific punchline, joking about the franchise’s connection with pav bhaji.
The segment remained firmly within the show’s established comedy format, with Ajay and Kapil trading quick one-liners.
Ajay Devgn Promotes Drishyam: The Conclusion
The appearance came as Ajay and his co-stars promote Drishyam: The Conclusion, which is being presented as the final chapter of the Hindi Drishyam franchise.
Ajay returns as Vijay Salgaonkar, while the cast includes familiar franchise faces alongside new additions.
The film continues the story established by the previous Drishyam movies and is expected to bring the franchise’s Hindi-language storyline to its conclusion.
Drishyam: The Conclusion is scheduled to release in theatres on October 2, 2026.
Drishyam and Goa’s Connection
Goa has been closely associated with the Drishyam franchise, both through its setting and the imagery used across the films.
Kapil’s joke on the show played directly on that connection, combining Ajay’s filmography with popular stereotypes associated with Goa.
Ajay’s response, meanwhile, shifted the focus from Goa to Kapil’s own history, resulting in one of the more memorable exchanges from the promotional appearance.
