Shruti Haasan has opened up about her views on marriage, companionship and motherhood, explaining why she does not necessarily associate a lasting relationship with traditional ideas of marriage.
In a recent podcast conversation with Soha Ali Khan, the actor spoke about wanting companionship while questioning the importance often placed on marriage paperwork, lavish celebrations and social expectations.
Shruti Haasan Says She Values Companionship
Shruti said companionship is something she genuinely appreciates, but she has never felt comfortable placing her life inside conventional categories.
“I really like companionship. But, I have lived my whole life in a way of not fitting in a box,” she said.
The actor explained that although she considers herself traditional in certain aspects of life, those views have developed through her own experiences rather than outside pressure.
“Weirdly, I am very traditional in some things and quite conservative in my approach to certain other things, but that’s only because no one forced me to come to that conclusion,” Shruti said.
For her, the emotional commitment between two people matters more than the formalities surrounding a marriage.

Shruti also questioned the need for spending heavily on weddings and making personal milestones into large public celebrations.
“I just feel that the paperwork with marriage, the lavish spending, showing, I feel like ‘Who are we doing this for?’” she said.
She added that she prefers the idea of two people consciously choosing one another rather than allowing legal paperwork to become the defining feature of their relationship.
“I enjoy that my partner and I pick each other every day, but not because of the paperwork,” Shruti explained.
The actor clarified that marriage itself is not something she necessarily fears. She said she had previously come close to getting married and found that experience less intimidating than she might have expected.
“I came close to marriage and it didn’t really scare me that much when push came to shove,” she said.
Shruti Haasan Says She Is Open to Adoption
Shruti has also spoken publicly about her thoughts on becoming a mother.
The actor has said she is open to adoption and would like to experience motherhood when she feels ready. At the same time, she has expressed an interest in having a biological child as well.
“I am open to adopt. I would really love to just be a mum, but I would also like to try it as an extension of myself in some biological way,” she said.
Her comments come after she has spoken about her experience with PCOS and how being told at a young age that pregnancy could potentially be difficult influenced the way she thought about motherhood.
Rather than viewing motherhood through a single route, Shruti has indicated that she remains open to different possibilities.

Shruti’s comments reflect a broader point she has made throughout her public life: personal relationships and major life decisions do not necessarily have to follow a predetermined timeline.
For the actor, companionship, mutual choice and the desire to become a parent appear to be separate considerations from the traditional expectations attached to marriage.
Her perspective also makes clear that her criticism is directed at what she sees as social pressure around weddings and marriage, rather than at people who choose traditional celebrations.

On the professional front, Shruti Haasan was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, which featured Rajinikanth in the lead role alongside Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir and Upendra.
She has also joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s Call Me Bae Season 2, where she will share screen space with Ananya Panday. Shruti is set to play a new-sister figure to Bae, with the character’s boho-inspired wardrobe forming part of her onscreen presentation.
The actor is also associated with SS Rajamouli’s Globetrotter, featuring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. Shruti is lending her voice to a song for the project.
