The 1990s Hindi film industry was known for packed shooting calendars, and Raveena Tandon has offered a glimpse into just how demanding those schedules could be for leading actresses.
During her appearance on the semi-finale of India’s Best Dancer Season 5, Raveena reunited with judge and longtime contemporary Karisma Kapoor. The conversation turned nostalgic as the two actors recalled their hectic working lives during the decade.
Raveena said she and Karisma were among the actresses who regularly worked across several productions simultaneously, sometimes moving between multiple sets in a single day.

Raveena Tandon: ‘24 Ghante Mein 36 Ghante Kaam’
Recalling the pace at which they worked, Raveena said she and Karisma could spend their days moving between different productions and locations.
“90s mein I think do hi heroines thi jo literally 24 ghante mein 36 ghante kaam karte the. Ek Lolo ji hain aur ek main hoon,” Raveena said.
She explained that the two actresses could reportedly shoot for six different productions in a single day, spending a few hours at one location before quickly moving to another.
“Aur 6 different productions ke 6 sets pe alag alag ek din mein hum shooting karte the. Do ghante idhar, dedh ghante udhar, teen ghante idhar toh chaar ghante udhar,” she recalled.
The demanding routine could become so hectic that they sometimes lost track of the characters they were playing.
“Hume pata bhi nahi ki hum kaunse character mein hain. Beyond a point, hum bhool jaate the ki joh bhi bola gaya hai woh karo,” Raveena added.

Six Sets, Multiple Characters and Constant Costume Changes
Raveena’s recollection highlights how differently film schedules could operate during the 1990s.
Instead of spending extended periods working on one project, she described a routine in which several films could be shot simultaneously. The actresses would move between sets, change costumes and immediately switch into another character.
With several productions being filmed at once, Raveena joked that the same type of character could effectively follow them from one set to another.
“Uss samay humko kahan rich spoiled brat, ek hi role tha 6 sets pe,” she said.
Her comments prompted laughter during the episode while also offering a glimpse into the workload associated with being a leading Hindi film actress during that period.

Karisma Kapoor Reveals Their Film City Routine
Karisma Kapoor added her own memory to Raveena’s story, recalling how frequently the two actresses would cross paths while working at Film City.
She said shooting could begin as early as 7 am, after which the actresses would spend the day moving between different sets.
“Aur ek secret main bata deti hoon. Shooting hoti thi Film City mein aur hum log subah 7 baje se shooting karte the,” Karisma recalled.
She described seeing each other while rushing from one set to another, often after changing costumes.
“Hum log subah 7 baje se shooting karte the and then we are crossing each other, yeh ek set se woh dusre set hum jaa rahe hain, kapda badal ke aa rahe hain, phir doosre set pe hum jaa rahe hain,” she said.
The anecdote gave viewers an insight into the close proximity in which many Bollywood productions operated, with Film City serving as a frequent shooting location for multiple films.
