Avika Gor has reflected on her first year of marriage with Milind Chandwani, sharing how companionship, patience and everyday moments have changed the way she looks at love. The actress says marriage has taught her that a strong relationship is less about grand gestures and more about understanding, teamwork and choosing each other every day.
Actress Avika Gor has opened up about the lessons she has learned during her first year of marriage to Milind Chandwani.
In an exclusive conversation with Hf, the Balika Vadhu actor spoke about love, companionship, disagreements and the small routines that have become part of married life. Rather than describing marriage through only romantic milestones, Avika said she has come to appreciate the ordinary moments shared with a partner.
Avika Gor says marriage is about being on the same team
Looking back at her first year with Milind, Avika said marriage has changed the way she understands love.
With her characteristic humour, she described marriage as finding a favourite person and then spending a lifetime teasing each other.
“This first year has taught me that marriage is basically finding your favourite person and then deciding to annoy each other for the rest of your lives!”
She then turned to what she considers the more meaningful lesson behind the joke.
“But on a more serious note, I’ve realised that love is much more about understanding than grand gestures. It’s knowing when to give each other space, when to listen, when to laugh things off and, most importantly, knowing that you’re on the same team even when you’re arguing about something completely ridiculous.”
For Avika, that sense of partnership has become one of the foundations of her marriage.
‘Companionship is about finding comfort in ordinary moments’
The actress also spoke about the quieter side of married life and how simply spending time together can become meaningful.
“I’ve also learnt that companionship is about finding comfort in the most ordinary moments, like doing absolutely nothing together and still feeling like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.”
She also admitted that keeping a marriage peaceful sometimes requires putting pride aside.
“And yes, I’ve learnt that sometimes the best way to keep the peace is to just admit you’re wrong, even when you’re very clearly not in your head.”
Avika added that reflecting on a relationship can also encourage personal growth.
“Sometimes, going deeper and reflecting doesn’t just help your relationship but also helps you become a better human.”
How marriage changed Avika’s idea of love
Avika said her understanding of romance has also evolved since getting married.
Before marriage, she explained, love can often be associated with dates, surprises and dramatic romantic moments. Married life, however, has introduced her to a much more routine side of companionship.
“Before marriage, I think we romanticise love a lot: the big moments, the dates, the surprises, the butterflies. After marriage, you realise love is also about grocery lists, deciding what to eat for dinner for the 400th time, sharing responsibilities and tolerating each other’s weird little habits.”
According to Avika, that everyday reality has made her view relationships differently.
“It has made me realise that a good relationship isn’t about finding someone who agrees with you all the time, but someone who understands you, challenges you, makes you laugh and still chooses you at the end of the day.”
She described marriage as making love feel less like something that simply happens and more like a conscious decision made repeatedly.
“Marriage has made love feel less like a feeling and more like a very conscious, everyday choice and somehow, that makes it even more beautiful.”
Avika reveals her idea of a perfect anniversary
When asked how she would like to celebrate an anniversary with Milind, Avika said she would prefer an experience over a conventional celebration.
“Honestly, anything that doesn’t involve checking the time every five minutes!”
Her ideal day would combine several of the things she enjoys, including romance, fitness, food and adventure.
“I’d want it to be a mix of romance, gym, good food, a little adventure, dressing up for each other, and spending proper quality time together.”
Avika added that creating memories matters more to her than simply organising an expensive or elaborate dinner.
“I love experiences, so I’d much rather create a crazy memory together than just have a fancy dinner and call it a day.”
Ultimately, she said, the perfect anniversary would simply involve the couple being themselves.
“But ultimately, the perfect anniversary is really just the two of us being ourselves. Laughing too much, teasing each other, taking far too many pictures, probably having one tiny argument over something completely unnecessary, and then ending the night thinking, ‘Okay, I’d still choose you.’”
Avika Gor and Milind Chandwani’s marriage
Avika Gor and Milind Chandwani tied the knot on September 30, 2025, on the sets of the reality television show Pati Patni Aur Panga.
A year into their marriage, Avika’s reflections offer a glimpse into how the actress views companionship beyond the romantic moments associated with a wedding or anniversary.
For her, the first year has been about learning how to communicate, give each other space, share responsibilities and find humour in the everyday realities of being together.
